Jamelody

Jamelody is one of the newest reggae artists to come to the reggae scene is from Port of Spain, Trinidad. Known formally as Michael Williams, is stage name is pronounced ja’melo’dy. He is signed to VP Records, a Caribbean record label based in New York. Jamelody ‘s first album, Be Prepared was released on April of this year.

People constantly make comments about Jamelody for being Trinidadian and singing reggae like Jamaicans are associated with instead the genre of soca and calypso that Trinidad and Tobago is known for. But he is not only the non-Jamaican artist who chose to sing reggae. The late Lucky Dube was another famous reggae musician from South Africa. Jamelody has a sweet voice and a very easy going personality that makes him seem so likeable.

The two songs that are known by most by the public are Love Crazy and Be Prepared. Love Crazy came in number six as the highest reggae radio debut[this year]. With positive and soulful lyrics like “You’re so righteous and so pure… I love you, you’re the inspiration of my life … you spread your love and set me free, and sounds of the saxophone was probably what made everyone like this song.

If you have not heard Jamelody, you have to check him out. Be Prepared shows the range of his voice, covering straight reggae, R&B and spiritual vibes all on the one cd.
